Ribiška družina Tolmin (RD Tolmin).
Founded in 1947, the Tolmin Angling Club has been managing the waters of the Tolmin district for nearly 80 years. With around 400 members, RD Tolmin is highly active in conservation, particularly in protecting and restoring native species. The club played a key role in the recovery of the pure Marble Trout (Salmo marmoratus) and is currently focused on supporting the struggling Adriatic Grayling population.
One of the strengths of RD Tolmin is that it operates its own fish farms, where Marble Trout, Adriatic Grayling, and Rainbow Trout are bred. This enables the club to balance conservation work with maintaining healthy fish populations for anglers.

Rivers managed by RD Tolmin.
RD Tolmin manages 10 rivers in the district, covering about 135 km in total.
Each river has unique character, access, and fishing challenges. Some are stocked, while others are managed strictly as wild fisheries. The club’s waters include everything from easily accessible stretches suitable for independent anglers to remote canyons where a guide is strongly recommended.
- Soča – The main river of the basin, managed from Čezsoča to just below the Doblar dam. Holds good stocks of Marble Trout, Grayling, Brown Trout, and stocked Rainbow Trout. Fishing ranges from easy to challenging, with some stretches well suited for beginners and others best tackled with a guide.
- Učja – A short river flowing 6 km through Slovenia in a steep canyon. All fish are wild and difficult to catch. Access is limited, and a guide is strongly recommended.
- Tolminka – A 10 km river flowing from Triglav National Park. The upper section is wild and demanding, while the lower part is more accessible with some stocking.
- Nadiža – Originating in Italy, it flows 12 km through Slovenia before returning across the border. Entirely wild and often difficult to fish, with access challenges in the upper stretches.
- Bela – A 4.7 km tributary of the Nadiža. Small, overgrown, and entirely wild, with a protected breeding zone at the headwaters. A guide is useful to find the right pools.
- Idrijca – The largest tributary managed by RD Tolmin, stretching 16 km. Known for its deep pools and wooded banks, with both stocked and wild fish. A challenging but rewarding river.
- Bača – Tributary of the Idrijca, with stocked fish in the lower section and wild fish above Klavže dam. Easier terrain makes it suitable for beginners, though locating fish can be tricky.
- Kneža – A swift-flowing tributary of the Bača. Entirely wild and fly-fishing only with a single barbless dry fly. Recommended for more experienced anglers.
- Koritnica (Baška) – A small 4.7 km tributary of the Bača with densely wooded banks and wild fish. Like the Kneža, fishing is restricted to a single barbless dry fly.
- Trebuščica – A 14 km tributary of the Idrijca, with its upper reaches protected as a breeding ground. The lower section is wild and challenging, with the season ending earlier than other rivers.
