Fish species of the european native trout challenge.

The European Native Trout Challenge focuses on the native members of the Salmonidae family found across Europe. This family includes species from two main subfamilies, Thymallinae and Salmoninae, which encompass trout, char, grayling, and huchen. Only species that are native and legally fishable are included in the challenges. However, protected and endangered species native to Europe are also presented on the website for informational and conservation purposes. This helps raise awareness about their status and the importance of protecting their natural habitats.
Within Europe, the following salmonid genera and numbers of species are recognized:
Hucho (1 species)
Salmo (26 species of which 1 extinct)
Salvelinus (24 species of which 1 extinct)
Thymallus (3 species)
