Ribiška Družina Ajdovščina (RD Ajdovščina).

Founded in 1976, Ribiška Družina Ajdovščina has been managing the fishing waters of the Vipava Valley for nearly 50 years. Today, the club has around 100 members. The club focuses on the Vipava River and its tributary Hubelj, ensuring the protection of native species such as the Marble Trout and Adriatic Grayling, while maintaining sustainable fishing through habitat restoration and selective stocking of Rainbow Trout.

barbless fishing only.
Spin lure minimum length 7cm.
The Hubelj and Vipava upstream their confluence is Fly fishing only.
Only one artificial fly may be used.

Rivers managed by RD Ajdovščina.

RD Ajdovščina manages two rivers in the Vipava Valley, covering about 12 km in total. Each river has its own character, access, and fishing challenges. The Vipava flows through a landscape of vineyards and rolling hills, while the Hubelj is a cold karst spring creek cutting through limestone cliffs. Together, they offer a unique mix of accessible valley fishing and technical small-stream challenges.

Vipava – The main river of the valley, spring-fed and shaped by karst geology. Flowing through vineyards, orchards, and the historic town of Vipava, it holds Marble Trout, Grayling, and stocked Rainbow Trout, alongside remnant populations of Brown Trout and hybrids. Its varied terrain makes it suitable both for independent anglers in easier stretches and for those seeking more technical fishing with local guidance.
Hubelj – A short karst spring creek that joins the Vipava in Ajdovščina. Emerging dramatically from a limestone spring, it runs cold and clear through a steep valley. The water holds Marble Trout and Grayling, with some remaining Brown Trout and hybrids. Fishing here is highly technical, as the creek is small and the fish are wary, making it best suited for experienced anglers.
