Ribiška Družina Brežice (RD Brežice).

Ribiška Družina Brežice manages fishing waters in southeastern Slovenia, in the lower Sava River basin near the border with Croatia. The club operates in a predominantly lowland environment, where rivers are broader, slower, and more diverse compared to Slovenia’s alpine regions. RD Brežice focuses on maintaining balanced fish populations across both cyprinid and predatory species, while also supporting local recreational fishing. Its waters include large rivers, backwaters, and managed stillwaters, offering a different style of fishing compared to the country’s trout-dominated regions.

Regulations.

• Fly fishing only and spin fishing.
• Only one artificial fly or lure may be used.

Fishing season.

• General season: 1 March – 30 September.

Rivers managed by RD Brežice.

Although RD Brežice primarily manages lowland cyprinid waters, it also includes a small number of trout streams in its district. These are the only waters within the club’s management where salmonid fishing is possible.

• Bregana River – A small border river forming part of the boundary between Slovenia and Croatia. In its upper and middle sections within the RD Brežice district, the Bregana supports Brown Trout populations. The river is relatively small, with a mix of shaded runs, pools, and undercut banks, requiring a stealthy and precise approach. It offers classic small-stream trout fishing in a lowland setting.
• Piroški Potok – A small tributary stream within the Sava basin, characterized by narrow channels and overgrown banks. It holds Brown Trout and provides highly technical fishing, where short casts and careful movement are essential. This is a typical intimate creek environment, best suited for experienced anglers or those who enjoy small-water trout fishing.

Licenses.

Fishing permits for RD Brežice waters are issued per water and per day or as longer-term options. Licenses can be purchased online via the RibiskeKarte platform. Each permit specifies the water, fishing method, and any special regulations that apply.
