Ribiška Družina Sora (RD Sora).

Founded in 1953, Ribiška Družina Sora manages waters in the Sora river system in northwestern Slovenia, part of the Sava basin (Danube drainage). The club was established by local anglers from Škofja Loka who sought to create an independent fishing organization for the Sora catchment, separate from the Ljubljana Fishing Cooperative. The association initially operated within the Ljubljana structure before becoming fully independent on 18 January 1958. Today, RD Sora is a well-established club responsible for managing the Poljanska Sora, Selška Sora, and the Sora River.

Regulations.

• Fly fishing only.
• Only one artificial fly with a single barbless hook may be used.
• Huchen fishing is possible in the Poljanska Sora and Sora.
• Huchen streamers must be 10cm or longer.

Fishing season.

• General season: 16 May – 30 November.

Rivers managed by RD Sora.

RD Sora manages three main rivers within the Sora system, all supporting salmonid populations and forming part of the upper Sava (Danube) drainage.

• Poljanska Sora – A clear alpine river flowing through narrow valleys and more open sections as it approaches Škofja Loka. It supports Brown Trout and Grayling, and is also one of the rivers where Huchen (Danube salmon) can be found. The river offers a mix of faster runs and deeper pools, with fishing ranging from moderately accessible to technical depending on the stretch.
• Selška Sora – A steeper and more confined river flowing through forested terrain. It holds Brown Trout and offers more technical fishing, with pocket water, structure, and variable flow conditions. Compared to the Poljanska Sora, it is generally smaller and more demanding.
• Sora River – Formed by the confluence of the Poljanska and Selška Sora near Škofja Loka. This lower section is broader and slower, creating suitable habitat for larger fish. In addition to Brown Trout and Grayling, the river also supports Huchen, making it one of the more interesting rivers in the region for anglers targeting large predatory salmonids.

Fishing permits for RD Sora waters are available via the RibiskeKarte platform and local vendors.
Permits are issued per river or section and specify the applicable rules, fishing methods, and season.
