Our Mission.
The European Native Trout Challenge exists to celebrate and protect Europe’s incredible diversity of native salmonids. Across the continent, wild trout, grayling, and char have adapted to countless rivers, streams, and lakes — each population shaped by its unique environment. Many of these fish remain little known outside their home waters, and far too many face threats from habitat loss, invasive species, and climate change.
Our mission is to:
- Document Europe’s native salmonids with accurate, accessible information on their biology, ecology, and distribution.
- Inspire anglers and nature lovers to explore these waters responsibly and discover the beauty of local trout and grayling.
- Support conservation projects that restore habitats and safeguard wild fish populations for future generations.
- Connect communities, guides, scientists, and organizations working toward the same goal: thriving rivers and native fish.
The Challenge is more than just a fishing journey. It’s about learning, sharing, and making a meaningful contribution to the protection of Europe’s freshwater heritage.
